// TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français)

organised at ESL-Montreux and ESL-Lyon every last Thursday of each month

In general
The TCF (Test de connaissance du français) is a language test to assess the general knowledge of French. The result will reflect the candidate's language competence on a scale of six levels, from “elementary” to “superior advanced”. These levels have been defined in the common Framework of reference by the ALTE group and the Council of Europe.

Public
The TCF is for all non-francophone people who, due to professional or personal reasons, wish to get a reliable and official certification of their French language level in a simple and quick way. Also companies wishing to evaluate the French language level of their employees may find it useful

Presentation
The TCF, conceived according to a progressive difficulty level, takes the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire with 80 items divided into three obligatory tests (1h 30) plus two complementary tests (2 h). Obligatory tests concern oral and written comprehension as well as proficiency in language structure. Complementary tests allow evaluating oral and written competence.

Sessions
The TCF is an instrument to evaluate the linguistic level of the candidate at the time of the exam, and as such it does not require any specific preparation. It can be taken more than once, provided that an interval of 90 days is respected between the two sessions. Once the compulsory tests have been passed, it will be possible to sit just for the complementary tests, within the time validity of the certificate.

Certification
The Centre International d'Études Pédagogiques (CIEP) – public body of the French Ministry for Youth, National Education and Research, also in charge of the DELF and DALF – will award an official certificate along with the grid of levels and the description for marks awarded. Its validity expires in 2 (two) years.

The TCF is organised every last Thursday of the month at ESL in Montreux and Lyon.
The enrolment deadline is 1 month before the examination.

On-line enrolment for the TCF exam.

At the end of your session, you will be awarded a course certificate that lists all the details of the programme that you have completed and the highest level that you have achieved. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to sit one of the examinations that are offered every month at our course centres or sit the DELF examination at the regional examination centre. Regardless of your level, you will be able to sit barometer-type examinations, such as the TCF or TEF, and receive an official certificate that is recognised by the Ministère de l’Education Française (French Ministry of Education) as well as internationally.

// TEF (test d'evaluation de français)

The TEF is organised every last Friday of the month at ESL in Montreux.

// DELF - 3 times a year in Lausanne

An official diploma from the French ministery of Education
The DELF was created in 1985 by the French Ministry of Education (Education Nationale). It is strictly meant for foreigners. In France, the Director of Education (recteur), University Chancellor, is in charge of the exams' organization. He determines the opening and closing dates for the applications, decides on the examination procedure and names the President and the members of the Jury. A national boards of education garnets a harmony between educational goals and examination process.

Main charachteristics of the DELF
The DELF consists in 6 independent units of progressive level which may be taken concurrently. Once passed, a unit is permanently acquired. This means that candidates may interrupt their program and take supplementary units later on, whether they are in France or abroad.
